Jury returns verdict in favor of University of Chicago physicians represented by Eichhorn & Eichhorn, LLP
Alyssa Stamatakos and Megan Brennan successfully defended two University of Chicago physicians in a medical malpractice trial in which the plaintiff alleged that the pediatricians improperly treated her son's dehydration, causing his death. The defendants hospitalized a thirteen-month old boy twice for dehydration associated with a virus. The baby died suddenly while in the hospital. At trial, the plaintiff requested over $1,000,000 in damages. Alyssa and Megan contended that all of the medical treatment was appropriate and that the physicians were not responsible for the baby's death. They relied upon autopsy results, which demonstrated that the baby had a rare genetic disorder, likely contributing to his death. After five days of trial, the jury concluded that there was no medical malpractice and returned a verdict in favor of the physicians.
